Envy ornament!
Envy on Mental!
My Environmental journey!

It was a new exercise for me! Though the issues (environmental) are the same!
Kankanadi, the place where I stayed for last two semesters (simply one year!)  And I used to walk through that bus stand daily. Every time I noticed those over flowing garbage containers. When seeing that, I always said to my friends, here goes great Mangalore. My friends laughed with me (as always). This year I changed my room to Balmatta. Till today, no issue was there near that.

Today I again visited my x-home, Kankanadi!
Those containers were there, still in overflowing
Condition. I met Mr. Mukthar, person who is in charge of a hostel which situates near that bus stand. He said, “Sometimes they (municipality workers, cleaners) come on time. Otherwise God only knows where they went!” By seeing that wastes only we can say that they didn’t come to clean it today. I didn’t think twice again, since today am assigned to this particular work. I took the picture of that ‘overflowing’ garbage container. Surprisingly there was a hotel nearby that, which was crowded, since it was lunch time! During night that bus stand is crowded, not with buses, but with those small food shops. And as a security guard, that ‘overflowing’ container, stood there always. Do not say you got Malaria, stomach ache, etc.! That container did anything to you. Your friends (who stays in/around Kankanadi) along with Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) did this, plus the great ‘you’ who ate from that place!
Keeping these things in my mind I forwarded my steps to Mangalore City, Corporation. There I met Manjunath R Shetty, Environmental Engineer, Mangalore City Corporation. He looked me like, ‘how come a ‘khadi’ come in front of me, with an appointment! But when I said am a media student, he welcomed me with a smile! Directly I said about the ‘overflowing’ garbage in Kankanadi bus stand. Suddenly, he dialed a number and called Mr. Ganesh and said about the issue. Ganesh, who is in charge on cleaning that surrounding, assured him (and me) that he will clean it now. That time, I became proud about myself, and remembered my ma’ms word, I hope u guys will tread a diff path n take this exercise seriously.
The following sentences are in a bit serious mode, since, those are the words spoke by Mr. Manjunath Shetty. First he promoted MCC, saying that Mangalore is one of the cleanest city in India. I didn’t answered anything. Then I pointed him the issues. I said him about the river (which is near TMA PAI Hall) is getting polluted. I asked him what all precautions; works are doing by MCC, against these issues. He said about governments policy, that red tappism is filled all over the govt. offices, No innovation can be done here because of that. He said me about the attempts (which was in vein) he made in MCC.  He said, it will take approximately another ten years to make the waste dumping facilities in proper!

Media, yes, he also used that word, by saying that media are not covering the environmental issues, but they are only interested in breaking news! He also said, media should go to the root causes of environmental issues. And always blaming the MCC is not a good thing, he added. He pointed that, first we want to campaign the civic sense! “No one can say that people are uneducated. People who come in BMW Car is only throwing wastes on the roadside!”
To protect the environment and to take precautions against diseases, MCC along with Western Institute is doing College to College Campaign. MCC also did videos as a part of campaign. He promised me that ‘within two months, we will make facilities in the house itself, to dump garbage’. He also forwarded some tips to save the nature, saying recycle the papers, plant the saplings against the trees you destroyed etc.

With a joy in my mind, for doing something for environment, I step down from MCC. It was good exercise, which we want to practice daily; my mind/heart said that to me, when I reached back to my home!!
