Foodball feast!
"Some people think football
is a matter of life and death. I assure you, its much more serious than that."
Bill
Shankly
2014 football World cup is becoming the graveyard for all the best paper line
up European teams. And the teams which were least noticed by the football
critics have conquered the heights. Iran, Bosnia, Colombia, Costarica are some
of the examples.
World cup ‘14 is more interesting than of last years. It became tough to
predict the winners and late goals decisive on big day for keepers. Brasuka
were shot into the heart of goalkeepers twice and thrice per match. This made a
feast for the fans and spectators. Though there were huge protests (still
happening) in Brazil, nothing stopped the large football crowd.
New technologies were brought in this year's World Cup. Goal-line
technology and vanishing foam. The
former made a controversial debut, denying Karim Benzema a hat-trick goal
against Honduras. The latter is to prevent teams from illegally gaining ground
at free-kicks, referees at the tournament were armed with small canisters of
vanishing foam. . Known as Aero Comex Futline, the substance dissolves within a
minute.
India having 1.237 billion does not have eleven players to compete in world cup
football. We can hope some or the other day God’s dream will come true and He
himself will die out of laughing! But Indians love Brazil and Argentina and
those are the national teams for Indians! Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo have huge
fans over here. Our people don’t even know national players of Indian team,
strange, but true!
For Kerala, which is God’s own country, football is a religion. The
sensation it creates is much more than that of any social media or political
party. Not only the youngsters who celebrate this feast, but all the ages have
taken football into their soul. When Spain was knocked out of world cup, my
sister called me and said, ‘their tiki taka was a failure this time’. I got
shock on hearing this!
Football unites the people. It makes the broiler children active. This
period gives rest to video games and TV serials. In many restaurants in India,
the football team and players entered in the menu list. People were so crazy
about this game. Whether it is world cup or premier league, stadiums were full
during football matches. But for cricket, even in the world cup, the stadiums
were empty.
Bill shankly, a Scottish footballer and
manager who is best known for his time as manager of Liverpool was right in
quoting the introduction lines. Yes people all over the world eat foodball and
live for it!
